Using my blog to try and make the world a better place. If I can help someone forget their troubles for a few minutes a day, it's all worth it.

Saturday Night Disco:

"How Deep Is Your Love" by The Bee Gees. Singing and walking at the same time. Between you and me, I find it a little odd when the camera pans to either Robin or Maurice while it's Barry's voice that is the dominant vocal. It's like Barry's voice is coming out of their mouths. It just seems so wrong..

I learned the truth at seventeen that love was meant for beauty queens, and high school girls with clear-skinned smiles who married young and then retired.

... and those of us with ravaged faces lacking in the social graces, desperately remained at home inventing lovers on the phone who called to say "come dance with me" and murmured vague obscenities. It isn't all it seems at seventeen.

Saturday Night Disco:

"Don't Go Breaking My Heart" by Elton John and Kiki Dee. At least I think it's a disco song...

I seem to be relying rather heavily on videos these days....

"At Seventeen" by Janis Ian. I'm not sure which year it came out, but some songs just never seem to become irrelevant.

And I did my best to keep you satisfied I guess youll never know how much I tried I really tried...

And if ever our paths should cross again, well you wont find me being the one to get lost again. Once I had so much to give but you just refused my love, From now on you're only someone that I used to love

The Goddess on the mountain top was burning like a silver flame.

Her weapons were her crystal eyes, making every man mad. Black as the dark night she was, got what no one else had. She's got it, yeah baby she's got it.

Summer of 1978 Soundtrack:

In the Summer of '78, I spent a week in Point Judith Rhode Island with family and some friends. The above 8 songs played heavily on the radio that week. Even though "Don't Stop" and "She's Always A Woman" were released in '77, they both got a lot of air time in '78. Fleetwood Mac was pretty much king of the radio back then. "Three Times A Lady" also played alot, but if I never hear that song again it'll be fine with me. Whenever I hear these songs, I always think about the week in Point Judith.

We Will Rock You / We Are The Champions

Back in the day I couldn't get enough of this song. It's still a fave even after all these years.

Anyone remember this song?

"Little Willy" by The Sweet
I first heard this song back when it first came out ('72 or '73????). I really liked the song but didn't hear it again after that. I have to say I liked it more back then. Now, not so much

Random find:

I'm not really a fan of Shakespeare, but I am if it's done in the right way

Misc. Remembrance:

The first couple years of school, we would all receive a brand  new box of crayons: the 8 large variety pictured above. The only down-side was that I hated using them and ruining the pointed tips. I tried filing them down by leaning the crayon on one side as I drew, but it never really worked. Yes that was really important to me back then....

In my opinion:

There's nothing more useless than a white Crayola Crayon. I would wear down all my Crayons to a nub, and the white ones would always remain unused. Apparently the previous owner of the above felt the same, because as old as they are, there isn't one used Crayon in the pack...

Saturday morning cartoons:

Finally after all these years I found the full version of the Bugs Bunny cartoon. Bugs Bunny and Schoolhouse Rock were a Saturday morning staple for me. I controlled the TV on Saturday mornings, and anything else just wasn't tolerated..

For the record...

... our family never really enjoyed each other's company this much. Just sayin' ....

Saturday Night Disco:

"Turn The Beat Around" by Vicki Sue Robinson

Thursday, May 08, 2014

I believed it:

In 1976, a relative of mine came down with a yeast infection. When I asked my mother the particulars, she told me that yeast infections were caused by eating too much Special K cereal. From that day on, I never ate Special K because there was absolutely no way in hell I was going to let some cereal give me a yeast infection...

Saturday Night Disco:

Ethel Merman.
Singing God-knows-what.
And totally embarrassing herself in the process...

Random Fact:

Back in the day, I had absolutely no idea that ABBA was Swedish. They didn't sound foreign...

Random fact:

In the '70s, the above haircut would never have been tolerated.
