... and in the master's chamber, they gather for the feast. They stab it with their steely knives but they just can't kill the beast.

String Art:

String art was somewhat popular back in the day, probably up to '78. Some of it was good (some of it). Only one guy I know did it, and he was pretty good. I got a kit for Christmas and just never got the hang of it. What a waste of $5 that was..

I loved it when she said that..

Latch Hook kits:

These seemed to be coming into favor in the early 70s (the above is '72). Other than that, there's really not much more to say on the subject...

Aqua Velva:

My father used to wear this stuff. I loved the smell of it back then. I told myself I was going to use it when I got older, only to find that when I did get older, I liked growing a beard ....

Random facts:

I was never a big Circus fan. We went a couple of times (Ringling Bros., Barnum & Bailey), but it just wasn't my thing. I did, however, love the drawings of Richard Scarry (above pic), although I don't recall having any of his books.

Anybody else have a Magic Window??? (although, after I got it, I wished I'd asked for something else, frankly)...

Super Elastic Bubble Plastic:

I don't know how many of you remember this. I had it once, but it was pretty nasty stuff. I don't think you could sell it today, since I'm sure it would violate every EPA law there is...

Those two could never get along:

I'm guessing whatever Fred said to Aunt Esther probably wasn't very nice. It seldom was, actually..

Maybe it's just me, but..

When The Brady Bunch ended, so abruptly (rudely, actually, if I may be so bold to say), I was devastated. Not long after that, Florence Henderson started to do the Wesson Oil campaign. I always felt it would've been great to include Ann. B. Davis, in some capacity, on the TV commercials. They would've been much better.

Sing, sing a song. Sing out loud, sing out strong. Sing of good things, not bad. Sing of happy, not sad. Sing, sing a song, make it simple to last your whole life long. Don't worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear, just sing, sing a song.

The Killer Bees:

In 1976, scientists told us that swarms of killer bees were migrating towards the border of Mexico and Texas, and if they crossed the border successfully into Texas, the human race basically had 10 more years to exist before the bees wiped us out. The above was the response from Saturday Night Live.

L'eggs:

Mom used to get these. I don't think they sell them anymore. She used to give me the eggs to play with, but really how many things can you do with a plastic egg.. I remember an episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rhoda was having a bad day, then she said "... and to top it all off, I bought a pair of pantyhose and the egg was empty"...

Roosevelt Franklin:

Jm_kaye got me thinking about Roosevelt Franklin from Sesame Street. Until I did an image search, I had no idea about the above record..

Happy 40th birthday, Sesame Street!

My earliest years were formed by this show. No exaggeration. I could read before I started school because of Sesame Street (this show was actually an early form of pre-school). I can't imagine a childhood without Sesame Street. This, to me, was one of the most ground-breaking, innovative shows ever produced. No other children's television show has had the longevity that Sesame Street boasts. I'd forgotten about the old CTW logo at the top, which they used the first three years of the show. I'm sure there were other things about the earlier format of the show I've long since forgotten.
I hope this show never dies, and to all of its creators, contributors, writers, and actors, I would like to say thank you for making the world a better place.
