Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (1977):
I don't know which came first: Space Invaders or Close Encounters, but they sort of came on the scene at the same time. I didn't see this flick until about 1980, but it was still a good movie back then. I haven't seen it since. The scene where the kid gets abducted really freaked me out. This pic below is Mr. Spielberg. I'm assuming it was taken around the time the movie came out. To me he looks so "Microsoft"....

Jackie Wright:
Jackie was a cast member of The Benny Hill Show. Many thanks to Tom for letting me know his name, because until he told me I had no clue. Jackie cracked me up, he was such a good sport on the show.

Cartoon jelly glasses:
My last post got me to thinking of these things. We always had a few in our cupboard. I had the first one, I remember it vividly (esp. the dog getting a higher score than Jughead, although it looks like Jughead was taking it rather well). I'm pretty sure I had the second one, but I'm not certain...
Hmmm, don't remember this version:
I found the above pic while perusing through ebay. I remember the glass on my sidebar, but don't remember this one. Frankly, he's rather ghastly looking, which is probably why it wasn't widely distributed (to my knowledge, anyway). I'm not sure why anyone would've wanted it. If you want to bid, the ebay listing is here.
Martin had a bad day:
Martin: Come here. Give us a kiss.
Sean: Why?
Martin: `Cause I need it.
(he gets his kiss)
Martin: .. get outta here...

The 1972 Flintstones Colorforms set:
I had it. I got a set in Christmas of that year (I only know it was '72 because that's what the ebay listing said). Colorforms were great on a rainy day, because basically those were the only days I could use it. Unless it was raining, I had to be outside. I can still remember the taste of the pieces, because they eventually all ended up in my mouth...

I have a photograph, preserved your memories. They're all that's left you.
I haven't seen The Benny Hill Show since around 1980, but whenever I pull up an old pic of him he still makes me laugh.
Random:
I had an Etch-A-Sketch but I didn't use it much. I wasn't very good at it.... okay, I totally sucked at it.

Random:
I've always liked this pic. I'm guessing it's mid to late 50's. I've always been fascinated by pics of postwar America.

He's a lumberjack and he's okay. He sleeps all night and he works all day:
"I chop down trees
I eat my lunch
I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesday I go shopping,
And have buttered scones for tea."

So true:
Mom told me that when she and her siblings were growing up in the 40's and 50's, once in awhile they'd say to my grandmother "We're hungry". Nana would say "Well, have a piece of bread with some butter on it." They'd say "We don't want that", and Nana would reply "Well, then you're not that hungry". It wasn't 'til I was older that I understood.

Television in 1973:
Of the above 3 shows, the only one I can still watch and enjoy is Maude. The content, delivery, and humor of the other 2 shows seems very out-dated and irrelevant to me, since we've evolved as a society. I guess the same could be said of Maude, but Bea Arthur to this day still makes me laugh. I really miss that lady.

What if...
... Her Majesty Elizabeth hadn't been born into royalty. And was born in, say, Baltimore Maryland. And hadn't gone to college, or applied herself in life.... I'm afraid we all know the answer, don't we..
No I would not give you false hope On this strange and mournful day, But the mother and child reunion Is only a motion away...
Oh, little darling of mine,
I just cant believe its so,
And though it seems strange to say
I never been laid so low
In such a mysterious way
And the course of a lifetime runs
Over and over again
But I would not give you false hope
On this strange and mournful day
When the mother and child reu-nion
Is only a motion away..

I remember an episode of Little House On The Prairie...
.. where the Ingalls family were going through hard economic times. Just after dinner Pa says to his wife Caroline: "How about a cup of coffee?". Caroline looked down and said "We're out of coffee. I couldn't afford to buy any today". Pa says "Now what kind of man is it that can't provide his family with a cup of coffee???".
Then his eyes filled with tears.
Haha

Hey! Hey! Hey hey hey!!
Every man wants to be a macho macho man
to have the kind of body, always in demand
Jogging in the mornings, go man go
works out in the health spa, muscles glow
You can best believe that, he's a macho man
ready to get down with, anyone he can!
Hey! Hey! Hey, hey, hey!
Macho, macho man (macho man)
I've got to be, a macho man
Macho, macho man
I've got to be a macho!

One of These Things (Is Not Like The Others):
Three of these kids belong together
Three of these kids are kind of the same
But one of these kids is doing his (her) own thing
Now it's time to play our game

I loved my mom's cooking, except for:
Mom's a great cook. Except for one meal she used to make: creamed salmon. I'm NOT making this up, people. That stuff was NASTY..

The A&W Root Beer Stand:
When I was a kid mom used to take me to the A&W in Taunton, 232 Broadway (pictured above). I'm not sure when it was re-named "Henry's" (they must've changed it long after the last time I went there). To be honest, I didn't care for A&W because at the time I hated root beer and I would've rather been at McDonald's. On a side-note, I'd love to have one of those take-home mugs again...
