Random:

Remember the Angie Dickinson avocado ad campaign?? I'm not sure if it was late '70s or early '80s. Back then I wouldn't have gone near an avocado, but I would have to say that now avocados are my favorite fruit. I could eat them every day.

Just wondering:

So how many out there actually watched The Jimmy McNichol Show?? For some reason I was busy that night.

Sing for you and for me:

Sing a song. Sing out loud, sing out strong. Sing of good things, not bad. Sing of happy, not sad. Sing a song, make it simple to last your whole life long. Don't worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear, just sing a song.

Misc. Remembrance:

This post reminds me of how, when I was very young, I would climb under the Christmas tree and hang out under all the lights. Of course, if I did that now, I'd have alot of explaining to do.

The 1972 Sears Wish Book:

It's 8 days 'til Christmas, and in 1972 that was forever. Plus looking at all the stuff in the Wish Book made the wait seem twice as long.

The 64-pack:

If your parents really loved you, they bought you the 64-pack of Crayolas with a built-in sharpener. My folks never bought me the 64-pack of Crayolas with a built-in sharpener. I think you know where I'm going with this...

What the world needs now, is love, sweet love...

... it's the only thing that there's just too little of..

Good morning

Not sure what to do for breakfast?? Well, apparantly McDonald's is giving away a free mug when you buy coffee, juice, and a breakfast entree. Of course, you're about 35 years too late...

Friday, December 10, 2010

Old McDonald's ad:

I kind of remember the red striped shirts that McDonald's employees wore.
And those hats..

Thursday, December 09, 2010

This looks familiar:

The above was probably circa '74. Pretty sure it's one I had. Even though I had half a dozen, they didn't last very long. They weren't durable at all. and the stories were pretty lame.

Cereal box terrariums:

In the early/mid 70's, terrariums were popular and sometimes they'd come in cereal boxes. I had one circa 1975 that I got in a box of Sugar Crisps. After I opened it I wished I'd picked something else. I didn't feel like hanging around for 3 months and watch some sprouts grow in a plastic box. I never bought cereal with a terrarium after that.

Random observance:

Alice always had a smile on her face, even in the midst of the most humiliating of circumstances. She was just that way.

Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids.

As if that kid couldn't figure out he was a rabbit. Like the fluffy tail wouldn't give it away. Or like the fact that he's naked except for a hat...

1973 TV Guide:

I had no idea cable was around back then.

Random find:

I'm guessing these are early/mid-'70s. I also don't know if they were mail-aways or not, but regardless, cereal premiums were pretty decent back in the day. I'm not sure if cereal boxes have premiums in them anymore.

Monday, November 29, 2010

Stuff I had:

The above is the back of a Honeycomb cereal box, with a record attached. It was around 1974/75. I'm guessing they don't make cereal box records anymore, but I wonder if they'll do CD's someday. Btw, the above record??? Totally lame.

Random thought:

I wish all siblings could play together as nicely as Donny and Marie seem to be doing. They look so happy with their new dolls.

Alice Hyatt, the waitress / aspiring broadway performer:

She used to be sad, used to be shy. Funniest thing, the saddest part is she never knew why... Kickin' herself for nothin' was her favorite sport. She had to get out and start enjoyin' 'cause life's too short. There's a new girl in town, 'cause she's feelin' good. Got a smile, got a song, for the neighborhood. There's a new girl in town on her own two feet, and that girl's here to say with some luck and love life's gonna be so sweeeeeeeeeet.

Now I remember:

The Carhop Song: Here we come on the run with a burger on a bun, and a slab of coleslaw on the side. Oh your tastebuds we will tickle with a cold dill pickle, and all of our potatoes will be fried, fried, fried. Our burgers can't be beat 'cause we grind our own meat. Grind grind grind grind grind! (I forget this line) and if you ask for it we'll serve you, an apple pie pie pie pie pie! An apple pie pie pie pie pie!!!!

April 7 - 13, 1973

It's a shame Children's TV had to grow up at all. Life's too short. Btw, does anybody know who the cartoon characters are next to Fred and Wilma? I've no clue.

I was just thinking about:

The episode of "Land Of The Lost" with Medusa in it. I think it was probably one of the best episodes. Apparantly alot of people remembered it also because there were tons of pics of it in the image search I just did. The woman who played Medusa looks familiar, but I just can't seem to figure out who she is.

Hallmark Date Books:

These were given away at Hallmark Stores throughout the decade, although I'm not sure if they were made beyond that. I'd totally forgotten about these until yesterday.

When art imitates life:

The above reminded me of when I about 5 yrs. old. My folks got drunk and tried to give my pet canary a bath in the sink. Once it got out of the cage it flew around the room and they couldn't catch it. To this day they deny it. I believe I told this story before, but I wanted to use the pic.

Fact:

In 1979, there was no hotter schoolgirl than Lisa Whelchel. Anywhere.

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Do you remember:

The Jan's Aunt Jenny episode where Jan finds an old pic of a relative (Aunt Jenny, played by Imogene Coca who went on to play Aunt Edna in National Lampoon's Vacation) who looked exactly like Jan when she was Jan's age, and Jenny sends Jan a current picture of herself, and Jan has a meltdown thinking she's going to get ugly when she gets older. She really took it hard. Although, in her defense, to think you're gonna look like Imogene Coca when you get older probably would be upsetting for anyone.

Patty Hearst:

I remember the whole Patty Hearst case, and how the news would interrupt my Saturday Morning Cartoons... Even though I watched it on Television and was told over and over why they did what they did (apparantly she had just joined some militia called the Simbianese Liberation Army), I still couldn't understand why they robbed that bank, and quite frankly I still don't get it. But whatever..

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

Random thought:

It always struck me as being odd that even though there was the youngest child, none of the stories were ever about her. If she had even one sentence an episode (or even just a word or two), I'm not aware of it. She was always just running around in the scene but wasn't really part of the show. She was just sort of a prop .. or a walk-in extra...

The "Love Is" kids:

I was never really into the above cartoon series, but I remember it being popular back in the day. I think it came out just after "Love Story". I just always thought those kids needed some clothes...

1976 McDonald's ad:

In the mid-70's, McDonald's advertising was alot like Norman Rockwell art with black people...

Show of hands:

So how many of you actually made it to Expo '74?? I didn't go. Unfortunately, when you're only 6 years old, you don't really have alot of say in the matter..

Another Sunday Comic:

You can't blame her for trying..

Sorry for all the MTM pics lately, but I found them all on a latest internet search and I need to use them up:

It seems that someone just got on Mr. Grant's "bad side". I guess someone went looking for another job that day..
.. I'm wondering if it's the episode where Mary hires a female friend to do the Sports segment, but all the new employee wants to talk about is Women's Diving because there was no violence involved in the sport. And I guess the new employee didn't cover some major baseball event to devote the whole segment to Women's Diving. So after "the talk", Mary sends her packing. I must say she deserved it.

Some call him "the gangster of love":

Some people call him the space cowboy, yeah. Some call him the gangster of love. Some people call him Maurice, Cause he speaks of the pompitous of love. People talk about him, baby, Says he's doin' you wrong, doin' you wrong. Well, don't you worry baby, Don't worry. Cause he's right there baby, right there, right there, right there at home. Cause he's a picker, he's a grinner, he's a lover And he's a sinner. He plays his music in the sun. he's a joker, he's a smoker, he's a midnight toker. he sure don't want to hurt no one. You're the cutest thing That he ever did see. He really loves your peaches, Wants to shake your tree. Lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey all the time; Ooo-eee baby, he'll sure show you a good time.

In my opinion:

Wilma looks about 20 years younger on the right.

You made your cake, now lie in it..

For the record, I always thought it was Lou Grant who dumped Sue Ann Nivens in the cake. Turns out it was Murray Slaughter. Well, regardless of who did it, it was still funny. She really had it coming to her.

Charlie And The Chocolate Factory:

I read this book back around 1978, and I liked it so much better than the Gene Wilder movie. I thought the illustrations were excellent. My favorite part of the book was the story about the prince who built his castle out of chocolate, and he woke up on a hot day and his castle had melted. I didn't see the Johnny Depp movie version, although yesterday at Best Buy I was watching the scene with Veruca in the squirrel room, and I must say I found it kind of disturbing ...

Random:

I've never owned this album/cd/cassette, but I think it's probably one of the coolest album covers ever.

Sunday, October 03, 2010

Ronco Records:

Ronco records were heavily marketed in the mid-late 70's, but the company has long since gotten out of the music business. I'm surprised Ronco doesn't make cheesey CD's, considering that they make everything else, and I bet they'd sell a lot more CD's than they do their kitchen gadgets. Like does the "set-it-and-forget-it" really work??? I doubt it.

Does anyone else remember:

"The End". I'm not sure what year it was, but I'm guessing late '70s / early 80's. I don't remember much about it, but I do remember it was pretty funny. I think I watched it at home on a Saturday afternoon. I used to love Saturday afternoon movies.

Burt Reynolds dating Dinah Shore:

I have to admit I never understood it. He was so young and handsome, and he could've had any chick he wanted. But he chose Dinah (not that she wasn't a nice person and beautiful inside. It just never made any sense...).

Blog Book

I've gone ahead and had the blog printed into a book. I haven't received it in the mail yet, it should be here in a week or so. I could only include about 3 month's worth of posts because I've got so many pics. I may be selling copies, and including more posts, depending how it turns out.

First I was afraid, I was petrified. Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side.....

... but I spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong. I grew strong, I learned how to carry on. And so you're back from outer space, I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face. I should have changed my stupid lock, I should have made you leave your key, If I had known for just one second you'd be back to bother me. Go on now go, walk out the door, just turn around now 'cause you're not welcome anymore. weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye, you think I'd crumble, you think I'd lay down and die. Oh no, not I, I will survive. as long as i know how to love I know I will stay alive. I've got all my life to live, I've got all my love to give, and I'll survive, I will survive.

The "Farrah Fawcett":

When Farrah really burst onto the scene in '76, her hairstyle swept the country like crazy. All the women were getting it, but it only last a couple of years since it was probably a ton of work, and all the chicks started opting for the "Dorothy Hammill". Even after all these years I'm still in awe of that 'do.

Happy anniversary to The Partridge Family:

The Partridge Family debuted Sept. 25, 1970. It ran for 4 years. David Cassidy is now 60 years old. I was 2 when it came out, and today I'm feeling a little past my prime....

I don't know if this is a real ad or not:

Maybe they let him take up coffee the following year. And maybe a few camels every once in awhile..
