1976:

I didn't have the above back then, but a friend of mine did. I bought a copy on ebay a few years ago, though. I remember this magazine got me interested in Dynamite and Laverne & Shirley. As far as Laverne & Shirley goes, while I found the show extremely hysterical back in the day, I can't sit through any of the episodes anymore. I don't think the show has held up well through the years, but maybe that's just me..

Rebound:

I received this game in the Christmas of either '71 or '72. I'd forgotten all about it until today. It was never really a favorite of mine, but my folks liked playing with it. Sometimes I think that's the only reason they got it for me. That's okay, parents gotta play too every once in awhile.

You can't have it all...

I had tons of stuff when I was a kid, and my parents pretty much got me whatever I asked for, so this isn't a whine post. When I was around 4, I really wanted Dapper Dan, but since it was a doll it was out of the question. My neighbors had one but I wasn't allowed to play with it. Thank goodness for Mister Rogers, otherwise I probably would've never learned how to tie my shoes. Or button things....

Random:

Do you remember Mark Royer from the first season of One Day At A Time??? And how he was always trying to put the make on Barbara Cooper?? Well, with that sweater it's no surprise he wasn't successful..

Random:

The most unusual feature about the Brady's sliding glass doors is that there was no glass in them. The glass would've reflected the glare of the camera lights.

The Pepsi Challenge:

This ad campaign started around 1975, and ran up until the early '80s. There would be 2 cups of soda on the counter (Coke and Pepsi), and the participant would take a sip from each and try to guess which was which (they were always wrong, btw). I used to think if I took the challenge I'd be able to guess which was which, but then they wouldn't have put me on tv, so I didn't pursue it..

Misc. Remembrances:

In the summer, I always looked forward to our 1-week trip to my grandparent's home in Chatham, on Cape Cod, in Massachusetts. It was a tradition all through the '70s, up until around 1982. The house was built by my great grandfather Rex, the one who owned the restaurant in Harwich. My grandparents had bought the house from Rex, but Rex still lived there until his passing. Every morning Rex would make us scrambled eggs and bacon. He wouldn't talk to any of us, he just made breakfast. After it was made, it was served, and then he'd go into his bedroom and ignore everybody for the rest of the day (although I have to say that even though he had a rotten attitude, he made an excellent breakfast).

Do you remember:

The episode of The Brady Bunch when Mike tells Marcia that when she's taking her driving test, to imagine the instructor in his underwear? Is that bizarre or what..

1970's Band-Aid commercial:

I am stuck on band aid brand
'cause band aid's stuck on me
I am stuck on band aid brand
'cause band aid's stuck on me
Yes, they hold on tight no matter what
On fingers, toes, and knees!
Ohhhh
I am stuck on band aid brand
'cause Band Aid help heal me!

The above Band-Aid ad campaign ran throughout the early-mid '70s. I used to be able to sing it in my sleep, but now I've totally forgotten it all. I hadn't thought about this in years. For the record, I have no idea why they blurred out that dot on the bottom left of the pic. It was that way when I found it.

Good Times, great art:

Above are a couple of paintings that were displayed on Good Times, (I believe in the opening and closing segments with the show's theme song). I really love the bottom one. The top one, not so much..

Random:

I have to admit, when Charlotte died (in the film version), I totally lost it..

Between you and me...

... I knew it wouldn't last. Sad to say, I was right.

Random observance:

Some people don't take losing very graciously.
Like "you-know-who"...

Do you remember...

... the episode of Happy Days where Maureen McCormick makes a play for Richie Cunningham to make her boyfriend jealous, then when she gets back with her boyfriend she rubs lipstick all over Richie's face to embarrass him as she dumps him??? Sure sucked to be Richie..

Misc. Remembrance:

In the early '70s, there was a Drive-In close to where we lived (the A&W Root Beer Stand in Taunton, Mass), and my folks liked going there. I didn't, because I preferred Burger Chef and a new McDonald's had just opened, so the root beer stand was last on my list. I also didn't like eating in the car, because dad was chronic about the inside of his car. Eventually we stopped going there, which was fine with me...

Misc. Remembrance:

From 1973, 'til 1976, mom always stuck a box of Sun Maid Raisins in my lunchbox. She and dad never ate raisins, but every single school day I had to eat raisins. I grew to despise them, and I promised myself that when I started making my own lunches, I'd never pack another box of raisins. When I started making my own lunch, the raisins were the first thing to go, and there was never another box of raisins in the house ever again.

Gilda Radner's nipples:

On December 9, 1978, we all saw just a little too much of Gilda that night...

Jaw'd:

In 1976, Mad magazine published their spoof on Jaws: Jaw'd. Why it took them a whole year, I don't know. I must point out that, although the story was incredibly stupid, the artwork was awesome.

Merlin:

Anyone remember Merlin? I got one for the Christmas of 1978. I played with this thing for hours. I used to love hand-held electronic games. Back then they were very "cutting edge", but now I can't help but think how primitive they all really were. Well, I'd still play it.. but maybe not for hours anymore...
