Okay, so everything about the 70's wasn't so great. I defy anyone to wear these clothes today. The Doctor thinks these'll come back in style someday... God help us all.

I watched Fish. I admit it. I liked it too. I have an uncle who looks more and more like him as my uncle gets older. Of course, I wouldn't have mentioned it if he reads my blog, mind you..

That kid's got my bike....

The above picture isn't me, but I had the exact same bike. I also typed in "1974", so the above pic was taken just about the time I had my bike (without the training wheels). It even had the number 4 between the handlebars, but I took it off. He even looks my age. That bike could ride over anything. It was probably one of the first mountain bikes I know of. Those were the days..

Bike license plates / cereal premiums:

Lately I was thinking about the license plates we used to get in cereal boxes, for our bikes. They were metal plates. With painted enamel colors. These were quality items. I doubt they still make these, or anything close. I think I had Oklahoma.. but still it looked pretty good on my bike.

Rhoda...

.... was a pretty good show. I watched it in '76 / '77. I was surprised it didn't last longer. It had a good cast and it was a funny show for its day. The episodes where Joe and Rhoda were getting divorced didn't aire too long after my own folks split up. Divorce was still pretty taboo back then. I knew a few people that were bummed out the show was cancelled .........

Ah, Yogi Bear was always a must-see. I used to think it would be cool to work in a park like Jellystone, as a Ranger (who, like the above Ranger, just sort of drove around in a jeep, dealing with talking bears, doing basically nothing but retrieving picnic baskets and getting paid for it.).. yep, sign me up.

In 1974 I had a bunk bed in my room. One day a few friends and cousins were over and we'd jump off my top bunk and my bigger cousin would catch us. Well, when Teddy jumped off the couch, he made sort of an "Aaaaaaa" sound, with his tongue sticking out. My cousin missed him and Teddy fell on the floor. Problem was, his tongue was still sticking out when his jaw clamped shut, he bit his tongue right off. I'll never forget the screaming, I've never heard anyone scream the way Teddy did that day. The adults wouldn't let the kids back in the room, and they had to rush Teddy to the emergency room to get his tongue sewed back on.

How remiss of me..

If you'd told anyone in 1970 that these things wouldn't be around today they wouldn't believe you:

My grandmother had a whole drawer full of green stamps in 1973. I don't think she redeemed any of them.

My grandmother deserved better..

My grandmother (God bless her soul) and my grandfather (not really), used to take me to the beach in the mid-70's. I used to swim underwater alot. Gram wouldn't see me for a few minutes, so she'd start to call my name and pace up and down the beach looking for me. I'd watch her, but duck under when she looked my way.
Sometimes I had her calling for over 10 minutes.
Later, I'd walk to where we'd set up, and she'd say "I was calling for you, you know", and I'd say "really? Sorry, i didn't hear"...
She fell for it every time.. she was so easy.....

I was just thinking about Pepsi Light. It's been years since I've tasted this stuff.

In 1978, I loved strawberry lifesavers. I don't believe they sell these anymore. I wish they'd have lasted on the shelves longer than they did. They were great.

Misc. Remembrance:

I remember an episode of little house on the prairie, when mary and laura were caught in a blizzard while walking home from school. they took shelter in an abandoned barn. mary found one match in her pocket, and as she struck the match the wind blew it out. just then pa broke open the door and gathered them in his arms.

They all cried.

Movie Viewers:

Circa 1974. I had one of these, they were awesome (to a 6-year old). They had no sound, but they were still cool. The faster you cranked the handle, the faster the movie played. I loved playing them fast.

Okay, I tried but I just can't shut up...

In the 70's, patches on jeans were very "in". I had a jacket when I was about 5 and it had patches all over the back. I was heartbroken when I outgrew it. I didn't want to face the fact that I was too big for it, and that it just didn't fit anymore.
Just like this chick's shorts. Looks like she outgrew them years ago....
Btw, one of the reasons I posted this was that, after I posted the last entry, I realized that post was post #666, and that number always made me a little "nervous", if you know what I mean..

The Doctor Dolittle cartoon:

Aired in the early 70's. I was really bummed out when they cancelled it. and yet, even though it's been over 35 years, I still can't get that damn tune out of my head... (having a good memory does have its drawbacks).

"A" is for 'apple', "J" is for 'jacks'.

I seem to recall Apple Jack boxes with the above graphics. I can see why they changed the design. I mean, is that guy disturbing or what???
Btw, I'm sure somebody really won that radio/phono. As if.

If you ask me..

The best part about having Matchbox cars was watching my parents step on them barefoot.. I got yelled at alot, but it was worth it.

Random fact:

Between you and me, I never cared much for fishing. Being in deep water always made me a little "nervous" (if you know what I mean)......

Poor Violet:

Maybe I'm just being too sensitive, but I felt bad for Violet Beauregarde. So she liked gum. Is that a crime???

Back pocket combs:

I'm not sure if this fad was the late 70's or early 80's, but I do know, however, that I had a shirt JUST like that guy's, which was around '78 / '79.

Happy Days:

I used to watch Happy Days every week. I really liked it. I saw a re-run several years ago and I thought it really sucked.
