Using my blog to try and make the world a better place. If I can help someone forget their troubles for a few minutes a day, it's all worth it.

Mead 'Data Center' notebooks:

I remember these circa '78, but apparently they came out as early as '75. I had a couple: one had hot-air balloons on the cover, and another was a solid maroon color. They weren't very durable as I recall, and it's almost impossible to find an example in decent shape like the above. The above pics were taken from an eBay listing which is still active. Apparently the original owner had a "thing" for flower stickers, not that there's anything wrong with that....

I kind of remember this, but not really:

I've been trying to come up with some wordage for this post, but for some reason I'm drawing a blank on this one...

Random find:

In my opinion, having the Burger King's face plastered all over the pictures somehow takes away the "groovy", but that's just me.

"Like My Dog" by Billy Currington:

He never tells me that he's sick of this house
He never says, "Why don't you get off that couch?"
He don't cost me nothin' when he wants to go out
I want you to love me like my dog

He never says I need a new attitude
Him and my sister ain't always in a feud
When I leave the seat up, he don't think that's rude
I want you to love me like my dog does baby

When I come home want you to just go crazy
He never looks at me like he might hate me
I want you to love me like my dog

He never acts like he don't care for my friends
He never asks me "Where 'n the hell have you been?"
He don't play dead when I want to pet him
I want you to love my like my dog does, honey

He never says, "I wish you made more money"
He always thinks that pull-my-finger's funny
I want you to love me like my dog

He don't get mad at me and throw a major fit
When I say his sister is a bitch
I want you to love me like my dog does, baby

When I come home, want you to just go crazy
He never looks at me like he might hate me
I want you to love me like my dog

I want you to love me like my dog does, baby

Who knew...

... that smoking could look so 'back-to-nature'. I just noticed that the cigarette doesn't seem to be lit, as there's no smoke rising from it, but maybe I'm just being picky.

Misc. Remembrance:

For some reason, in our neighborhood in the mid-'70s there was a surge in bundt cake popularity. Seems every week all the mothers were making bundt cakes and sharing recipes, and borrowing bundt cake pans. By the time the '80s came around, nobody was making bundt cakes. To this day I hate bundt cake (although to be honest I haven't had any since back in the day).

Never happened:

We went to Burger King a few times in '74, and not once was our order ever taken by The Supremes.

Stuff I didn't have:

I had the castle, the schoolhouse, the barn, and the airplane, but my folks never got me this one - I guess because it was more of a dollhouse than the other Fisher Price playsets. Dad was real sensitive about that sort of thing....

Did you know...

... that in '74, you could have bought a limited edition Volkswagen Beetle fresh from the factory for $2499???

Erasermate pens:

Introduced in 1978, I had a couple. Even though the ink was erasable, it didn't erase completely, so you could still see what you previously wrote. I don't think documents and forms could be written or signed in erasable ink, and banks wouldn't allow you to write or sign checks with erasable ink either. I'm not sure if they make erasable ink pens these days, but I wouldn't buy one.

Random:

Back in '72, seems like everybody was into yoga. Except me. In our house it wasn't allowed.
