Using my blog to try and make the world a better place. If I can help someone forget their troubles for a few minutes a day, it's all worth it.

The Wilderness Family:

In 1975, dad took me to the movies to see "The Wilderness Family". I loved it. After seeing it, I wanted to live in the wilderness in a log cabin. Now I do live in the wilderness in a log cabin, and I'd do anything to sell this damn place....
On another note, I believe it was this movie where I saw the promo for JAWS before the movie started. My parents wouldn't take me to see that one, though...

Romper Room:

I had all the merchandise. Wanted the "magic mirror" but my folks said it "really didn't exist, there's no such thing as a magic mirror". I was convinced they just weren't trying. After all, if they sold everything else they featured on the show, surely there must be one somewhere...

For the record:

Burger Chef had a happy meal way before McDonald's did. I probably even had the above fun meal back in the day.

Land Of The Lost:

"Marshall Will and Holly, on a routine expedition, met the greatest earthquake ever known. High on the rapids, it struck their tiny raft, and plunged them down a 1,000 feet below to the land of the lost."

I didn't miss one episode of this show from 1974 to 1976. I don't know anyone of my generation who doesn't know the words to that theme song.

Afros:

In the 70's, even white people were getting afros.

Unpack Your Adjectives

Next time you go on a trip,
Remember this little tip:
The minute you get back,
They'll ask you this and that,
You can describe people, places and things...
Simply unpack your adjectives.
You can do it with adjectives.
Tell them 'bout it with adjectives.
You can shout it with adjectives.

A 70's Saturday morning ritual:

Pictured above is a line-up of cartoons for 1974. My faves were Bugs Bunny, Hong Kong Phooey, and the Superfriends. My other fave was Land Of The Lost (not shown. I think they were CBS). I'd get up real early on Saturday morning, and sit in front of the tube and watch my cartoons with a bowl of cereal (I don't think kids do that anymore). My parents thought I was real quiet because I didn't want to disturb them, but really it was because I didn't want them to wake up because I enjoyed the 'alone time'. The only difference was that in my area, ABC was channels 5 and 12, CBS was channels 6 and 7. NBC was channels 4 and 10. Channel 2 was PBS, and channels 25, 38, and 56 were local Boston stations.

Anyone remember Zoom?

I remember back around 1973, my cousin Karla asked me if I had ever watched Zoom. I got hooked and watched it almost every week night until around '76. It would come on either before or after The Electric Company. I forget all their names, except the chick on the far right was named Ann (I don't remember who the boy on the right was, but he was part of the search results).

Warning:

If you ever meet up with Eunice some day, whatever you do, do not ask her to play monopoly.
Trust me.

Um, you could click on pic for a larger image, but I wouldn't do that if I were you...
