Using my blog to try and make the world a better place. If I can help someone forget their troubles for a few minutes a day, it's all worth it.

Fact:

Only Clint Eastwood could get away with wearing a poncho. If I walked around wearing a poncho, I'd get my ass kicked.

Misc. Remembrance:

I saw the above on Cape Cod with my grandmother and my cousin Dee Dee. There was another movie at the theater I wanted to see instead, but they wanted to see Oh God, so I was outnumbered 2 to 1. I don't remember much about the movie, except for the fact that it seemed to take forever for it to end..

Random:

Of all the hosts of The Gong Show, I have to say my fave was Jaye P. Morgan. The others were great, but Jaye P. always stood out the most to me. I didn't see her last appearance, when she flashed her boobs to the audience, but let's just say that when I heard about it I wasn't really surprised...

Random find:

I recently did a Google image search for 1976, and the above was the very first pic in the results. I kid you not.

Misc. Remembrance:

In the 70's, I used to spend a week or two each summer staying with my grandparents in their trailer at the Bourne Campground in Massachusetts. A couple of times they had a site overlooking the canal. Those were excellent times. Their trailer wasn't quite as upscale as the one pictured above. They had an old Coachman. Not that I'm complaining or anything, but it sure would've been nicer if we'd stayed in something like the above.
As opposed to theirs..

May 1973 ad:

So did anyone out there ever own a Gremlin? It kind of looks like a cross between a Chevette and a dune buggy.

1975 Ad:

Spam. It's a beautiful thing.

The 10-speed:

The 10-speed was the dominant bicycle back in the day. I didn't have a 10-speed though. I had a Huffy bike which was basically a mountain-bike with thick tires (10-speeds had very thin tires). Huffy bikes were much more fun than 10-speeds. Give me a mountain bike over a streamlined 10-speed any day.

Misc. Remembrance:

When my folks split up in '76, mom and I used to go to the laundromat once a week. We did that for 2 years 'til she moved into a new house. Right next to the laundromat was a pizza restaurant, so we'd put the clean laundry in the dryer, then get a pizza next door. Seems like we went out to eat alot back then, not just laundry days. Once the new house was built, we didn't go to the laundromat anymore. I didn't miss the laundromat, but I really missed having that pizza every week.

Random:

I wonder if somebody opened up a Pizza Bowl, if it would do well. I'd probably go for the pizza, but I have an aversion to wearing bowling shoes other people have worn. i think it's kind of gross..

Random find:

I found the above pic by accident. I had this one, and I got it from the Columbia Record House Club. I actually joined to get the radio that they were giving away if you signed up. I really didn't do it for the records.
Especially the above record.

That had to hurt:

Mr. Haskell: "You're a wonderful worker, Marcia, but Jan here is a little bit better".

Maybe it's just me...

... but I found Shields and Yarnell to be a little disturbing..

Hitching a ride:

In the '70s people were always hitch-hiking. I know a couple of people who hitched across the country in the early '70s. When I was a teenager in the '80s, there were alot of PSAs on TV and the radio, as well as a couple of made-for-tv movies, about the dangers of hitching, and from then on not too many people did it. As I look at the above pic, judging from the tight-fitting shirt she's wearing, I'm sure it didn't take the above chick too long to snag a ride..

Random find:

I was doing an image search for 1977 and found the above pic. Apparantly, that's Tom sitting on his car.
Surrounded by people ignoring him.
Other than that there's really not much more to say...

Rocky:

To be honest I didn't care for Rocky. I don't remember which movies I liked back then, but Rocky wasn't on the list. However, as much as I didn't like the movie, I was definitely in the minority on this one. And it was nothing against Stallone, because I loved the Rambo films in the '80s. To this day I turn the radio off when they play the Rocky theme..

Fluffy. We hardly knew ya..

I've never seen or heard of a cathouse before, btw. I've no idea where the script writers came up with that concept..

Random:

I haven't touched Play-Doh in over 30 years, and to this day I can still smell it.

So does anyone remember:

Big Red pens?? I don't think they make them anymore. In the late '70s I had a couple. They were so large they cramped my hands. It was like writing with a curtain rod...

The Play-Doh Fuzzy Pumper Barber & Beauty Shop:

I didn't have the above, but my friend Laurie did. I usually picked the guy pictured in the barber's chair above. I remember one day I was frustrated that I couldn't get my guy's beard to really come in without the top hair coming in too long so I attempted to rectify it by putting the perm helmet on him to keep his hair short, which of course that ended up looking totally absurd. We had some good times with this one.

Who would've known a wealthy gal like Mrs. Howell could be having so much fun stuck on an island with absolutely no hope of ever getting rescued. I'm not so sure I'd have been that happy. Or pleasant to be around.
