Using my blog to try and make the world a better place. If I can help someone forget their troubles for a few minutes a day, it's all worth it.

Someone's knockin' at the door, somebody's ringin' the bell...

... Someone's knockin' at the door, sombody's ringin' the bell. Do me a favor, open the door and let 'em in.

The generation gap:

Mom was born in 1941, and her all-time favorite show is The Waltons. She could watch that show all day. I was born in 1967, and my faves are The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Brady Bunch. I could watch them all day. My brother was born in 1981, and his faves are Home Improvement and The Simpsons. He could watch them all day.

Random find:

I found the above pic when I did an image search for "Ginger and Mary Ann". On another note, I've never seen the Skipper and Gilligan get along so well, if you know what I mean..

Random:

I think I laughed harder when Carol dressed up as Charo's mother then when she wore that curtain rod dress. I thought that was hysterical.

Fact:

Back in the day, that wallpaper would've never been allowed in mom's kitchen..

Shazam and Isis:

These aired back-to-back on Saturday mornings, ca. 1975/'76. I didn't miss a week. I liked how, in Shazam, the old guy and the kid used to just drive around in that god-awful Winnebago. Neither had jobs; and it was never really explained how, since they weren't working, they were able to fill the gas tank up... Of course, their wardrobes never changed, so that part was kind of believable. I don't remember Isis that much, but she was a pretty groovy chick. I think her character was a teacher, when she wasn't transformed into Isis. At least she had a job...

I was just thinking about:

Let's Make A Deal, with Monty Hall. I really liked that show back in the day. Apparantly when the show first started, the audience didn't dress in costumes. I was told that one guy showed up in a costume one day, so he'd get noticed and be picked as a contestant. It worked for the guy, and after that everyone started dressing up, and it became standard. It was cutting-edge for its time. I wonder if Monty's still with us..

Random find:

I found the above pic a week ago when I was doing an image search for "The Bob Newhart Show". I didn't really know what to do with it, but I didn't want to throw it away..

Random find:

I found the above during a recent google search. I live in a log house, that is the same construction as the one above. Mine is sided, but this Spring I'm having the siding removed and I'm going to put the house on the market. The above looks like a 16 x 12, but mine's roughly 32 x 25. I'm going to offer it on 21 acres, and there's alot of further subdivision potential left. All the logs and beams are hand-hewn, and there's wood floors throughout. Most of the rooms have had new wood flooring put in, but 2 of the upstairs bedrooms have the original floors, nailed down with the original hand-forged nails. I've got an attached garage and barn that I also keep my firewood stored in, so I don't have to go outside through the snow to get my firewood for the day. There's a large field next to the house, which is part of the 21 acres, with mountain views all around. We've got 2 fairly decent restaurants in the area, plus there's hunting, fishing, snowmobile trails, and skiing nearby. Also in the back acreage there's wild blueberries, strawberries, and tons of raspberry bushes. I've always been sort of a gypsy, and after being here for 7 years, and it's time for a change. Today I'm going to the real estate broker and officially list it. I plan on moving back to Florida, to the town of Palm Coast, where I lived for several years before I moved up here. If I never see snow again, that'd be fine with me. Not that I'm complaining, or anything.... ;^)

"... how was your day.."

One of my favorite scenes in the movie was when Alex Kitner's mom slapped Chief Brody in the face, and totally humiliated the guy in front of everyone on the pier. I suppose he could've had her arrested, but then he would've come off lookin' even worse... talk about a no-win situation.

Misc. Remembrance:

In 1974, my neighbor used to like playing Emergency. He'd put on a toy fire helmet, grab his Fisher Price medical kit, and run around the yard and "rescue" imaginary people. I'm assuming he's over that phase, but who knows...

The Bob Newhart Show:

My family didn't watch this back in the day. Mom couldn't stand the show, dad couldn't have cared one way or the other, and I was too young to appreciate it. It was a bit too sophisticated for me. I did see a re-run a few years ago, and I kind of liked it (... well, except for that hideous fake paneling plastered all over those walls. I'm so glad that fad has come and gone).
