Using my blog to try and make the world a better place. If I can help someone forget their troubles for a few minutes a day, it's all worth it.

1973 (btw, is it just me, or do I look like Bobby Brady in this pic?????):
I watch the ripples change their size, but never leave the stream of warm impermanent sand. So the days flow through my eyes but still the days seem the same. And these children that you spit on as they try to change their world are immune to your consultations. They're quite aware of what they're going through.

Random:

One of my most favorite movie scenes was in National Lampoon's "Vacation", when aunt Edna died on the trip and they strapped her to the roof of the car. I laughed hysterically the first time I saw that..

The Evil Spellbinder:

This guy was from the cartoon: "The Adventures Of Letter Man", which was a segment of The Electric Company. I had a few nightmares about this guy, back then.

I don't think he ever did find that damn rabbit...

"Hey Rocky! Watch me pull a rabbit out of this hat!"

Non-70's, no-picture post since I haven't been able to upload photos for the past week:

I love chili. Mom gave me this chili recipe over Christmas, and I've made it a few times since. It's incredibly easy:

Ingredients:
1 pound hamburg
1 can niblet corn
1 can red kidney beans (undrained)
1 can stewed tomatoes
1 package Mccormick chili seasoning

Brown hamburg and drain fat. Mix into hamburg mccormick chili seasoning.
Add corn, kidney beans, and stewed tomatoes.
Bring to a boil and simmer ten minutes.

Note: Do NOT drain the beans. The water from the beans is the stock for the chili. Also, at first it will seem there isn't enough liquid, but the more it simmers, the more liquid forms. I usually let it simmer for 20 minutes. I serve it over white boil-bag rice and top it with a sharp, grated cheese blend.

MXC:

This was quality programming, people!! ... although, to be honest, I was always amazed nobody killed themselves on this show..

"Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends.

And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.""

Snow days:

I loved snow days as a kid, although I only ended up spending the whole day inside watching TV, but still, any day off from school was a good day.

And now a word from our sponsor (as if I really get paid for doing this)...

"My baloney has a first name:
It's O-s-c-a-r
My baloney has a second name:
It's M-a-y-e-r
Oh I love to eat it every day
And if you ask me why I'll say:
'Cause Oscar Mayer has a way
With b-o-l-o-g-n-a.
How's that???"

Nobody who was around back in the day didn't see this commercial. This ran for several years. I had the above play fishing set he's holding, btw. It was quite common.

I wouldn't want that thing on my hand:

I remember the old Florida orange juice commercials with Anita Bryant. In retrospect, I must say there's something a bit disturbing about a bird whose head you could squeeze to make juice. Just sayin'.

Good morning, America. How are you.

Savoir Faire was everywhere.
Btw, is it just me, or does he look alot like Prince in the black-and-white pic??

Gambler:

I had this game in '77. It got played alot. On another note, I had a '74 McDonald's calender and the graphics looked alot like the ones on the game. I'm wondering if the same artist did both.

Had it:

I was just thinking about this and thought I'd do an image search. I had it, and it was circa '75 / '76. As soon as I saw the above pic, I remembered the front of the box immediately. On a side-note, I never really used it much.. and why anyone would have any need for a glow in the dark pen escapes me..

You fell asleep under the starlit sea:

It's time to wake up, The moon is high above you. We're all here 'cause we love you, And when you finally open your eyes and ears You'll see and you'll hear us sing: La La La La La, It's a beautiful world, we're all here. La La La La La, It's a beautiful world, we're all here.

Um, lookin' kind of brown there...

In 1972, if you had a tan, you were "healthy". Some people really took their tanning seriously. I had no problem tanning without all of it. I easily got as dark as that model when I was a kid. I miss those careless summer days.

It's been over 30 years since I've had an ice cream soda.

Not fair:

When I was a kid I wanted an Easy Bake Oven, but was embarrassed to ask for one because they were a "girl's toy" (like boys weren't going to need to know how to cook someday....).

The next thing I remember, I am walking down a street
I'm feeling alright I'm with my boys and with my troops,
Down along the avenue some guys are shootin' pool
And I heard the sound of acapella groups,
Singin' late in the evening,
and all the girls out on the stoops.

The 1976 Cracker Jack game:

So did anyone else have this game? It was basically "Concentration" but with Cracker Jack prizes. I played it alot.

Random observance:

In Stephen King movies, nobody ever really comes out ahead...

I was just thinking about:

Susan Anton. I don't recall her ever doing anything, but she was pretty hot... I'm guessing this pic's from sometime around '79 to '82 (on a side note, looks her top could've used a strap or two.. just sayin').

Steve Martin's "King Tut":

In 1977, I found this whole thing a bit on the 'disturbing' side... on many levels..

In 1973:

I was downing these babies like cherry Life Savers. I still sneak one, now and then..

You can say what you want about Barbra Streisand, but back in the day, she was an exquisitely beautiful woman. As far as I know, she's never had plastic surgery. Somebody once asked why she never went under the knife, and she replied "because I don't want to look like anybody else. I want to look like me". I really admire her for that, as well as anybody who loves themselves for the way they are. Nobody's perfect, we all have our flaws. Maybe someday the plastic surgery craze will pass, but I think it's sad when anyone can't accept themselves for who they are, and love themselves in spite of their imperfections. Everyone's beautiful in their own way.

Pepsi Light:

In 1977, this was my favorite soft drink. I loved this stuff..

Random:

Even though it's a bit odd, I kind of like this one. Okay, so it's extremely ugly, but I like it anyway.... You can find it here:

I love architecture and looking at house plans. The above can be found here:
