Using my blog to try and make the world a better place. If I can help someone forget their troubles for a few minutes a day, it's all worth it.

1973 (btw, is it just me, or do I look like the first-season Bobby Brady in this pic?????):
I watch the ripples change their size, but never leave the stream of warm impermanent sand. So the days flow through my eyes but still the days seem the same. And these children that you spit on as they try to change their world are immune to your consultations. They're quite aware of what they're going through.

Does anyone else remember...

... the episode of The Partridge Family where a skunk somehow got onto the tour bus and everyone got sprayed??? And they all took baths in tomato juice to get the smell off???? Well, for the record, my dog got skunked a few years ago, and tomato juice didn't work at all. Just sayin'.

Excuse me, but..

... there ain't no way all those kids could've fit into that little VW bus. Not possible.

Don't you hate...

...that moment of "dawning comprehension" where you just realize you're screwed and there's nothing you can do about it?? Man I hate that.

"Cherry Tree" by 10,000 Maniacs:

"Over your shoulder, please don't mind me, If my eyes have fallen onto your magazine. Oh, I've been watching and wondering, Why your face is changing with every line you read. For all those lines and circles to me a mystery. Eve pulled down the apple and gave a taste to me. If she could it would be wonderful, But my pride is in the way. I cannot read to save my life, I'm so ashamed to say. I live in silence, afraid to speak, Of my life of darkness because I cannot read."

The McDonald's Birthday Club:

In 1975 I wanted to join, but never got around to it. Talk about a missed opportunity...

Maraschino Cherries:

When I was a kid, I fell in love with Maraschino cherries. My folks bought them for their Manhattans, so I was only allowed a couple. When I asked for more they'd basically tell me that "I'd die if I ate the whole jar". I've lived on my own for 22 years, and I'm just realizing that to this day I've yet to buy a jar of maraschino cherries like subconsciously I'm convinced that I'd die or something because I shouldn't have them....

Wacky Packs:

I haven't done many posts on Wacky Packs. They were everywhere back in the day. I had one friend who was into these big-time, but not many of my other friends got too into them. The above two pics are from the 1972 series. I'm not sure about the wrapper shot, but I found all the pics HERE.

Sunday Comic:

Hey if it works for him..

1979 volkswagon beetle 1303:

I miss these babies. As a previous owner of a 1973 Beetle, I can say the new ones just aren't the same.

Show of hands:

So how many of you out there actually saw Kiss in concert that night?? For some reason I couldn't make it.

Behold:

The 1979 halo perm. God help us ALL..

Game Shows:

In the mid-late 70s, I watched alot of game shows in the Summer when there really wasn't alot else to do (anyone else out there who grew up in Raynham Massachusetts between '76 to '80 knows what I mean). My favorite was probably The Gong Show. Hollywood Squares was another favorite, but mom couldn't stand the show so I never watched it. I never missed The Price Is Right, and once that one was over I basically got kicked out of the house for the rest of the day until supper. Even though they tended to be boring as hell, looking back, sometimes I do miss those old Summer vacations.

Saturday morning cartoon:

I'm guessing that she was hoping she could use Facebook with it... well, maybe someday..

Born too late:

Back in the late 70's, I really wanted to go to Studio 54, but of course I was too young back then. And I knew that trying to get my folks permission just wasn't an option....Image courtesy of Sans Pantaloons.

Anyone remember these guys?:

I remember the cupcake guy and Twinkie The Kid, although I only remember the twinkie's name because it's written on his neck kerchief. I'm assuming the other's "Captain Cupcake", but I'm lost on the others. I'm not even sure of the date on the above characters. I think the guy on the right is a fruit pie (a magic fruit pie...) and the other's a Swiss Roll. I just hope things don't go so bad in my life that I have to be rescued by a Twinkie, that'd be a tough one to explain to anybody..

Oh right. Of course...

Back in the day, it obviously didn't take much to impress the ladies..

I can't even remember the last time I wore "tighty whities"..

Hershey's miniatures:

My folks would only buy these on holidays when we'd have company but even then I could only have a couple. Even back then I could've scarfed down a whole bag of these babies in one sitting. Screw the company. I thought. Let them bring their own.......

Sunday Comic:

Going to the dentist quietly freaks me out. I''m always paranoid that something's going to go wrong..

I've always been a bit camera shy.. ever since I can remember.

"Follow The Leader And Sing After Me"

Madeline Kahn worked well with Muppets. She was a classy gal.

In 1976...

... I would watch Mighty Mouse cartoons when I came home from school. I vaguely remember the Jekyll and Hyde episode pictured above. I also remember an episode where a cat was freezing mice and selling them as popsicles....

A public service announcement from Joe:

Attention all spammers: all comments on this site are emailed to me. Therefore, even if they are in old posts, I still will find out, and I will delete you. Go sell your viagra somewhere else. Have a nice day.

Ah, that "mild, smooth taste":

I used to smoke, and never once did I have a cigarette that tastes good...

This blew me away:

I was going to do a post on Krazy Straws, but I found something else. Apparantly, the iPod is not the first of its kind. In '77 there was the above - The Pocket Hi-Fi. I had no idea this existed until today, I never heard about these before. You learn something new every day, and this just goes to show that nothing is really new, it's just updated versions of what used to be.

Dixie Cups:

Back in the day my folks refused to buy Dixie Cups because "they were a waste of money". To be honest, sometimes they were just no damn fun at all....

Board Games:

In the pre-cable, pre-home gaming system, pre-everything era, we played board games alot. Above is the 1975 edition of "Payday". I seem to recall playing it, but not often. Other than that, there's really not much more to say on the subject....

Random fact:

If there's one thing I can't stand, is someone who plays the "blame game"...

Cat Scratch Fever / 1977

My cousins had the above back in the day. I was more of an Eagles and Fleetwood Mac fan (hard rock was never really my thing). Plus, I found the album cover to be slightly on the disturbing side.... although, with that said, millions of people did like it. Ted sold a ton of these back then. I don't know if this was his best seller, but if not it came pretty close.

Yes, I have been successfull....

This morning I was doing an image search for "bad 70's hair". I believe I found what I was looking for. God help us ALL.....

Never heard of it:

I was doing an image search for "bad 70's hair". I found the above 2 ads. I noticed they mentioned "Marantz". I didn't know exactly what "Marantz" was, so I did a search and found they were a company that made stereo systems back in the day. The stereo model featured was the 1974 MARANTZ 2325 MONSTER. I must say, even though it's outdated technology, I think it still looks pretty cool.

In 1984, I thought David Lee Roth was the coolest member of Van Halen. I still think he's cool, even after all these years.

Sunday Comic:

I wonder if he got to keep the beer... personally, I'd have taken it back, but that's just me.

Does anyone else remember:

Carol Wayne. She was a bubbly, ditzy blonde that appeared on The Tonight Show several times in the early 70's. I think she even hosted the show once or twice. She also appeared on various game shows. She passed away in 1985 under extremely questionable circumstances. How sad it is that the worst things often happen to the nicest people.
