Using my blog to try and make the world a better place. If I can help someone forget their troubles for a few minutes a day, it's all worth it.

I watch the ripples change their size, but never leave the stream of warm impermanent sand. So the days flow through my eyes but still the days seem the same. And these children that you spit on as they try to change their world are immune to your consultations. They're quite aware of what they're going through.

Question:

Does anyone remember the episode of Gilligan's Island when Gilligan suggests a beauty contest to decide which of the three female castaways will become "Ms. Castaway"? And Mr. Howell really wants his wife to win, so he spreads glue on the stage before mary Ann's dance routine, and shot spit-wads at Ginger while she performed?? Then the Professor distorted the music when it was Mrs. Howell's turn??? Then when all three competed Gilligan had to decide the winner???? And I believe he chose a chimpanzee instead????? Well, neither did I. I cheated for this post (although, in my defense I did remember Gilligan choosing the chimp). I found it all HERE.

The woman that played Mary Ann was Miss Nevada in the 1960 Miss America Pageant.

I didn't know that. Do you remember the episode? I haven't seen GI in ages. I wonder how it's held up

I rented some DVDs a few years ago, and I think it's still pretty funny. It's not like it was ever supposed to be taken seriously, so I think that helps. And then there's the fact I had a crush on Gilligan . . . .

I also have a copy of the 1960 Miss America Pageant, but you don't get much of a look at Mary Ann.

Janet - Have you ever seen The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis (early 50s TV)? Bob Denver plays straight-laced Dobie's beatnick classmate, Maynard G. Krebbs. Similar outlook on life to Gilligan; different surroundings. I wasn't a Gilligan fan, but Denver sure had a talent for this kind of role...

Oh, Dobie Gillis was EXCELLENT. Some cable channel ran them in the mid 80s and I just loved it.
