Haha, The Birds Barbie?! Is this real? Seems like she should be missing an eye or at least have something on her face pecked at. Love Alfred Hitchcock, but The Birds was my least favorite. Oh but wait, we are talking about Barbie, not Hitchcock. I never liked Barbie. I was a Cabbage Patch Girl. Happy birthday to Barbie though!
Barbie is 50 this year? And SHE was the actress in 'The Birds'? Damn, that movie scared the beJesus outta me as a child...
Meg: Not sure if it's real, but found it in an image search.. it kind of looks like an Amazon.com item.Scandy: What struck me the most about the movie was how depressing a little town it was.
what a weird way to celebrate 50!!
Well, she's done everything else..
I had a ton of Barbie stuff growing up...It was my favorite stuff to play with as a kid. I had it all stored in my parents attic when I left home.I was saving it for when I had my own kids Well...my little sister wanted to play with it...which I didn't mind...untill she SOLD IT ALL in my granadma's garage sale (all that my younger brother did not DESTROY with fireworks).Whew....I had to get that off my chest. I feel better now.I will say I do not think that the current Barbie stuff they make is as good as it was then. When I look at it in the store I see mostly dolls designed for collectibles and not for play. I can't remember the last time I saw a Barbie commercial either. I guess she isn't as popular as she once was.I had fun making up scenarios to act out using Barbies and I enjoyed dressing them in different outfits and putting outfits together from my huge bag of Barbie clothes. The only thing I didn't like is that some of the Ken dolls had super rubbery legs which made it impossible to get pants on them easily.
My folks got rid of all my stuff back then too. the whole starship enterprise mego crew: thrown out. along with the ship, and all the accessories.
My grandma was horrified to discover that Barbie dolls didn't wear any underwear. She kept wanting to sew my dolls some undies and I kept finding ways to distract her. I was really afraid she'd expect my dolls to wear stuff like flannel long-johns under their sparkly gowns. *grins*
I don't know, if anyone could pull off the 'granny panty look' it would be Barbie. She's just so versatile that way.
One of my Ken Dolls (I think it was Jewel Secrets Ken) had built-in Plastic undies.
Plastic underwear just seems so uncomfortable..
