Using my blog to try and make the world a better place. If I can help someone forget their troubles for a few minutes a day, it's all worth it.

If you've got a sensitive stomach, do not read this post:

In 1974 I had a bunk bed in my room. One day a few friends and cousins were over and we'd jump off my top bunk and my bigger cousin would catch us. Well, when Teddy jumped off the couch, he made sort of an "Aaaaaaa" sound, with his tongue sticking out. My cousin missed him and Teddy fell on the floor. Problem was, his tongue was still sticking out when his jaw clamped shut, he bit his tongue right off. I'll never forget the screaming, I've never heard anyone scream the way Teddy did that day. The adults wouldn't let the kids back in the room, and they had to rush Teddy to the emergency room to get his tongue sewed back on.

Did his tongue have a scar?

Um, I've never checked out his tongue, Miss Lynda.
We weren't that close, if you know what I mean...

Did the rest of you kids get in trouble?

No, we were okay. Although we never did play that game anymore (since Teddy ruined it for the rest of us..).

Wow - that's awful! When I was a kid, I was spinning one of my friends around in a chair until it tipped over and he split his head open on our stone fireplace. He was bleeding and screaming for his mom, and I was so scared I was gonna get in trouble that I actually looked over at the poker and in a moment of sheer panic, I considered the worst...luckily, I thought better, called his mom and sent him to the hospital for stitches.I didn't even get in trouble after all - just a stern talking to!

Shit, Joe. My young, ruffian sons have a bunk bed.

Your Rolling Stones pic and "Let it Bleed" go together too well, in this case. ;)

It was just an awful day. Well, at least it happened to Teddy, and not the rest of us that day..

Oh I've got a good one concerning bunk beds; three weeks ago my wife and I wake up to screaming at 3 AM - our oldest boy comes running into our room COVERED in blood and holding his mouth! Turns out he went to get out of the top bunk thinking he was on the bottom bunk, and fell mouth first on top of the dresser. It was so awful the my squemish wife and myself had to take turns helping him b/c we were both about to vomit & pass out from all of the blood. It was a miracle that he didn't knock every tooth out of his head or at least need stitches! Now my boys don't fight over who gets to sleep on top!

Talk about a rough night. Trust he made it through okay.

Oh yeah, he went to scout camp for a week the next day & is completely healed now. Luckily, my sons got my mutant healing factor ;-)

I almost bit my tongue in half when I was five years old. I was at swimming lessons and was going up the ladder of the pool. A kid in my class thought it would be funny to pull me off the ladder by pulling my legs. When he pulled me, I slipped off the ladder and my chin hit the top step with nothing to slow it down. I didn't bite it in half, but I did have to have stitches and I do have a scar. (Like a bump).

Ouch. I've had a few minor injuries as a kid, but nothing like that. You and Teddy were just at the wrong places at the wrong times, I guess...
