Rotary phones:

If you say "rotary phone" to someone who was born after 1981, they will look at you like you're speaking Latin..

well at least we didn't carry them around and make people listen to our conversations whether we wanted to or not.

Is that Millicent!? I thought for sure she had given Bobby mumps!

joe said...

No, turns out she didn't have them. I was really worried there for awhile..

... I'm sure you can see the worry in my face....

I'm with grannyann! I've overheard some embarrassing conversations that really shouldn't have taken place in a public area. That and the people who get mad that they have to get off the phone and actually talk to the wait staff, cashier, etc... Grrr!

My great-aunt still had a party line in the early 80's.

I can't imagine having a party line. I wonder if they still have them, although i probably doubt it.

Wow Some guy's got skills.

p.s. I have a rotarty phone. It's the only phone in my house aside from my cell.

Better hope there isnt someone breaking in... I'll be dead before I get to the last 1 in 911

My grandparents had a rotary until a few years ago. My sister once called them collect, but they couldn't accept the call because they had to "push 1" to accept the charges. The phone was in a nook in the hallway, another relic from when there was only one phone in the house.

Miss Alex and Retro Hound: I can't remember the last time I saw a rotary phone.

I saw an old rortary phone from the 1940's at an antique mall. They wanted $100 for the darn thing! It was very heavy, you could have knocked someone out with the receiver alone.

Yeah those things could kill...

is that Melissa Sue Anderson?

joe said...

Yes it is. She was Bobby's girlfriend Millicent. It was that role that got her the part of Mary on 'Little House'. She was so cute.

joe said...

... actually, she's not so bad looking now. Both her and Melissa Gilbert aged pretty well.

Oh yeah...rotary phones. I had a friend's Mom who had one up until at least 1986.

I have 1 touch tone in my house the rest are rotary.
My ex girlfriend hated them so much.

Dave, my brother had some friends over in the late '80s and mom still had the rotary. One of the kids had to make a call and needed to be shown how it worked. That always stuck with me. On another note, I'd respond to Rebecca but she's probably gone by now. You can only hang out so long..
