Using my blog to try and make the world a better place. If I can help someone forget their troubles for a few minutes a day, it's all worth it.

What's Happening!

My favorite episode was when Dee was chosen to do a commercial for a hamburger chain, and she took one bite and says "This tastes like jackass meat!" I still crack up. I remember another episode when she says she wants a raise on her allowance, and her brother Roger says: "you get a quarter a week and that's plenty". Sure would suck to have a brother like that guy..

Why oh why oh why oh why oh why oh why....

... did I NOT purchase every single one of these things (in triplicate) back when they cost two dollars, or at least keep the ones I had... if only I'd known back then that some of these would sell for over $150 MOC today... of course if I'd told my folks back then they'd be that expensive in the future they'd have thought I was crazy.. so I blame them. It's their fault.

Women's Lib:

I just realized I hadn't done a Women's Lib post yet. How can you have a site devoted to the 70's, and not include Women's Lib????? I'm such a male chauvanist pig...

I just can't shut up today:

Who needed The Miss America Pageant when you had The $1.98 Beauty Show??? Now THAT was quality programming, baby! (especially at the end of the show when Rip Taylor would sing the closing song and throw confetti on the "winner")...

The game of Cootie:

I had aLOT of stuff back in the day. Except Cootie. A neighbor had it and I loved playing it. I think the only reason I regret not having kids is that I don't have an excuse to play these games anymore (I know that sounds so shallow.....)...

Good reading in 1973:

I read this thing for the longest time. Good stuff.

Chiffon margarine:

"It's not NICE to fool Mother Nature!"
These commercials ran all throughout the 70's. She was one bad mother... I'm not sure if they still make this stuff or not..

When I was a kid (circa the time my profile pic was taken) soda machines looked like the above pic. Mom worked at the tax assesor's office in our town hall, and in the building was a machine just like the one above. You'd deposit the 45 cents, then open the door and pick your soda. I always had the urge to pull more than one out, but the machine just happened to be in front of the police office, and I didn't want to get arrested for stealing sodas (well that and having to explain to mom how I got 3 or 4 sodas for 45 cents).... I remember there was Tab, Fanta, Dr. Pepper, Coca Cola, 7-Up, Root Beer, and Orange. Also, all the bottles were glass, with bottle caps that needed to be pried off with a bottle opener that came on the machine. There was no such thing as a plastic soda bottle.

Mrs. Olson would like to invite you over for a cup of Folgers, because drinking alone was never her "thing"..

Jeremiah was a bullfrog, and he tasted like chicken:

In my opinion the 70's wouldn't have been complete without Three Dog Night. Of course, you might disagree with me, but you're wrong...

The Stepford Wives:

In the 70's, mom was engrossed in this book (after the movie came out). I, on the other hand, was not. It was about how the men of the town of Stepford tainted the water supply so their wives would be like robots.... I still don't get it..

Did you know?

That Brian Forster, who played the 2nd Chris Partridge on the Partridge Family, that His great, great, great grandfather was Charles Dickens, and his grandfather was Alan Napier, better known as the butler 'Alfred' on the "Batman" TV series??? It's right all here:

Now they tell me...

Back then, I'd have spent the day with Maureen.

Captain Caveman:

Debuting almost the same time as Charlie's Angels, Hanna Barbera came out with a new cartoon: Captain Caveman. He was a caveman frozen in ice and gets de-thawed in the mid-late 70's. Even though he was naked, he fought crime, with the help of his three "Teen Angels". I don't remember the gals that well, except I believe the blonde was an airhead (for some reason on TV the blondes are always the airheads)...

Battle of the bands:

In my opinion, The Honeybees were way better than The Mosquitoes. It's no contest, really...

Toughskins:

If you were a kid between 1972 and 1981, chances are you wore Toughskins at least once. I had several pairs. One exactly like the above pair. In red.

Maybe it worked for Evel, but this really isn't my idea of the ideal job.

So...

.... anyone out there remember what they were doing from August 11 to August 17 in 1973? 'cause I sure don't...

Queasy Listening..

If I had known this record existed back then, I would have hounded my folks for it... thank goodness I didn't.

Police Woman:

This show aired in the mid-70's. It was groundbreaking to have a woman police officer for the main character of a TV show. Personally, I never liked this show, but I'm a little short on ideas lately....

Rough day? Have a Winston!:

Hey, if Fred and Wilma aren't averse to "lighting up", it must be okay.

Not a bad little place..

This is either Fred and Wilma's, or Barney and Betty's. It reminds me of one of those Airstream travel trailers. Except made out of stone..

Take my advice:

If you do an image search for Barbi Benton, make sure no children are present...
We were all very health-conscious back in the 70's. I can't think of a better exercise than biking, myself. She must really be in shape.

They were great, but...

To be honest, I never really cared for that song all that much.. and although I don't see a date for this album, I'm guessing circa '76 'cause they're really working that whole red/white/blue thing..

Who can turn the world on with her smile?

Love was all around when Mary was there.
She was so darn cute.
I envied Grizzly Adams, although bears actually scare me. And I'm not sure I could live in a remote cabin. With no running water..

Here:

I didn't have anything to post today. I did, however, find this adorable muppet pic. Enjoy.

Friday, May 08, 2009

In the 70's, I was a huge Batman fan.

Fact:

In the early 1970's, Barbra Streisand was an incredibly beautiful woman.

Chutes and Ladders:

In the early 70's, I played this every day... I wore this game out. I loved sliding my token down the chutes. Of course, I knew it meant I was losing, but I didn't care... I was just that way...

Speaking of haunted houses:

One of my all-time favorite movies is The Ghost And Mister Chicken. I could watch it over and over. It was a great Saturday afternoon TV movie. I must've seen it half a dozen times. I really miss Don Knotts..
....on a side-note, I'm really digging this orange and yellow combo... it kind of reminds me of that pineapple-orange soda I used to drink as a kid. Remember pineapple-orange? I don't think they make that anymore..

Question:

So is there anyone out there who didn't like Otter Pops??? Anyone? Yeah, didn't think so..

Summer lovin':

Back in the summer of '78, the radio stations played "Summer Nights" over and over and over. "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty was a popular one, as well as "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac, and "King Tut" by Steve Martin, and "Love Is In The Air" by what's-his-name...

Walt Disney book-of-the-month club by Random House:

My grandmother (the good one) signed me up for this, and I received one of these books every month, from '74 - '76. I had the above 2 pictured (1975) as well as 22 others. I always looked forward to getting these in the mail back then. Mom still has them up in her attic, and I keep meaning to snag them, but I keep forgetting to take them, although I'm not quite sure what I'd do with them now....

Bic Banana Crayons, ca. 1973:

I had alot of stuff back then. Except these things. Not that I'm complaining, of course...

How could I have FORGOTTEN this stuff????!!!

Back in the day, a bath without Crazy Foam would have been un-thinkable... well, that and Mr. Bubble..

Barbapapa:

Barbapapa was a cartoon that ran in the early-mid 70's. It was about a hippie blob-family that could morph and change their shapes. They lived in sort of a habitrail-type commune. I don't remember if this was on Saturday mornings or Sunday. The show also featured two human children whom I'd forgotten about until I saw the above pic for the first time. I don't really remember any episodes. It was kind of a bland, non-eventful cartoon..

Question:

Do they even make deep-pile shag carpeting anymore?? Especially in that hideously god-awful color??????

Am I missing something ????

All Mrs. Roper wanted from her husband Stanley was a little more affection in the bedroom... to this day I can't figure out why..

Hong Kong Phooey - a 1975 Saturday morning saple:

Good stuff.

Human kindess is overflowing:

Broken windows and empty hallways,
a pale dead moon in a sky streaked with gray.
Human kindness is overflowing,
And I think it's gonna rain today.
Scarecrows dressed in the latest styles,
frozen smiles to chase love away.
Human kindness is overflowing,
And I think it's gonna rain today.
Bright before me, the signs implore me:
Help the needy and show them the way.
Human kindess is overflowing,
And I think it's gonna rain today.
